Kingsdale Parking Lot Construction Video:

Ensuring sufficient public parking for the new Bob Crane Community Center has been a top priority throughout the planning stages of the Kingsdale Shopping Center and surrounding area. As initial design concepts for below ground or additional surface parking become unlikely, the City of Upper Arlington began exploring alternative options. Adding a parking deck to the north end of the Giant Eagle Market District parking lot, which would provide a total of 310 parking spaces on two levels, emerged as the most ideal solution.

To facilitate this project, two-thirds of the parking lot in front of the Giant Eagle Market District will be closed starting in April 2024. This closure is necessary to ensure the safety of visitors and construction workers during the building process and will continue until late fall.

While this construction may cause some inconvenience, the new parking deck will greatly enhance parking availability and convenience for visitors to the area. The project includes the addition of more than 120 net new parking spaces, bringing the total public parking around the Bob Crane Community Center to nearly 950 spaces. This includes designated ADA spaces and spots for visitors with mobility challenges.

During the construction period, drivers will still be able to access the parking lot from the traffic light at Northwest Boulevard. However, visitors will need to drive around the construction site to access parking. For drivers coming from the north or west, we encourage you to access Giant Eagle from the traffic light at Tremont Road and Milden Road for easier access.

Although there will be some disruption over the next few months, our ongoing efforts to enhance parking safety and convenience in this area will further establish the Kingsdale Shopping Center as the heart of Upper Arlington’s community gatherings.

Columbia Gas has two major infrastructure projects in Upper Arlington.

Columbia Gas purchased the property on 1336 Ridgeview Rd near North Star Rd to create a new utility station.  Columbia Gas will also be replacing a current utility station located on Brandon Rd.  In addition, they will be replacing old gas lines with new federally mandated steel pipes with safety features.

City Council did not have to vote on anything regarding these projects because nothing has to be re-zoned.  Utilities have the right to access, upgrade and install the necessary supporting infrastructure in any community within its service area.

Columbia Gas will have to go to the Board of Zoning and Planning when they decide what the structure looks like.  They will need approval for the design but not the utility station itself.
